1851 Census: John Foran (42) and his wife Catherine (38) are living at Waterloo Crescent, St. George in the East with his three children John age
10, Catherine age 5 and James 9 months, all born St. George’s in the East.
The Census names his wife as Catherine; however the surgeon Superintendent of the Minden recorded her as Margaret as did her son James’s death certificate and her own death certificate.
On the voyage of the Minden Mrs Foran gave assistance to Mrs Gorman at the birth of her twins and the aftercare of the two infants. Mr & Mrs Foran were the God parents for Elizabeth Minden Gorman when the twins were baptised on the ship.
John Foran (and family) was first sent to Port Gregory He was one of the pensioners called out to assist the Civil Power twice, once when there was a mutiny in the Depot and another time to stand guard over the ‘Mary Queen of Scots’ wreck. When Pt Gregory was closed down after much hardship he was reassigned land at Greenough.
On 5th February 1881 the widow Foran applied to the A/Staff Officer Armstrong for relief but was told there were no canteen funds available.
