He was also in receipt of a silver medal for Good Conduct and a gratuity of £5
The Surgeon Superintendent of the Norwood considered he was the “most troublesome character throughout the voyage”.
In 1881 Michael was recommended to be appointed gate keeper on the railway (cons 31 SROWA
1881 he was advised that he would get title to his land at koojee (sic) when he had cleared and fenced it
In 1880 Michael was living at No 2 Barracks Fremantle with his wife and 6 children.
In 1881 his name was on the reserve list for the Enrolled Guard
Appointed 2nd April 1881 to Enrolled Guard dismissed 6th March 1882.
21st January 1884 Elizabeth Fitzpatrick requested a permit to visit Rottnest for 2 days to visit her husband who was doing duty as a guard. SROWA Cons 527 1884/0423
12th March 1884 Michael tendered his resignation from the Guard at Rottnest. SROWA Cons 4 February 1884 Dr Barnett wrote complaining he treated a small boy the son of Michael Fitzpatrick, pensioner Rottnest, for a dislocated shoulder the result of the violence of his step mother. Fitzpatrick refused to pay the £2 for the treatment stating that he was entitled to free medical care for his wife and children. Dr Barnette stated free medical care was only available with a certificate or for paupers. SROWA Cons 430 1884/0171Michael Fitzpatrick’s family believe he was the last person to be buried in the old Skinner Street cemetery
His photo was given by members of his family to the Enrolled Pensioner Guard Special Interest Group part of Western Australian Genealogical Society. Conservation work carried out on photo and now stands in Unit 4 of the Societies premises.
