When the Hashemy was chartered as a convict transport in 1850 its destination was Van Diemen’s Land but due to the strong anti-transportation movement in the Eastern states it was decided to send it to Western Australia where transportation was still acceptable. As a result the WO 23s still have the pensioners located in VDL in 1851 instead of Western Australia.1850 Patrick Carroll received medical treatment aboard the Hashemy for rheumatism and catarrh, his wife Mary age 30 had treatment for dyspepsia and sons William age 8 Michael age 2 and John age 4 all had rubella and John also suffered from catarrh and phlegmon. William was diagnosed with scarletina on 16th September and died on the 27th October from dysentery.
13th May 1851 Captain Bruce proposed to sending 6 pensioners to Bunbury ie Corp William White, Corporal John Baskerville, privates John Costello, Pat Lee, James Connors and Pat Carroll.
1869 Purchased for £5 Town Lot 97 Bunbury signed for by wife Mary.
Son James died from being kicked in the head after a fall from a horse.
A Catherine Cahill born c 1827 had her surname also transcribed as Carrol and is said to be a child of one or both Patrick Carrol and Mary Power. Although she could have been Patrick Carroll’s sister
