Further Information | British Army, Worldwide Index 1841 William is located Dublin Ireland When the Hashemy was chartered as a convict transport in 1850 its destination was Van Diemen’s Land but due to the strong anti-transportation movement in the Eastern states it was decided to send it to Western Australia where transportation was still acceptable. As a result the WO 23s still have the pensioners located in VDL in 1851 instead of Western Australia. Report by Henderson on ship leaving England indicates William White having been found out, just before they left England, of trying to pass his midwife sister-in-law off as a daughter, Then required to pay 6d per day for her rations for the voyage. Mrs White age 36 received medical treatment aboard the Hashemy also Ellen Meade (her sister) age 17 received medical treatment Ellen Mead married married Thomas Trott (Convict 11) at Bunbury in 1851. Ellen Trott died aged 69 in 1901, so born c 1832 her father is reported as James Meade. William White’s wife Julia applied for her sister Mary to be a migrant (WA Bicentennial Dictionary) |
