During the voyage of the Clara James White was one of the six guards reported for gross negligence of duty in taking his ammunition from a pouch and concealing it in the barracks, Grog stopped for 3 days and the matter to be referred to the Commandant at Fremantle. In the 1871 Census RG 10 3797/61/61 A James White age 47, pensioner, born Ireland (b 1824) is living at Hyslop Street, Toxteth Park Liverpool with his wife Catherine and a step daughter Mary Birmingham this could possibly have been our James and he married after returning to England. |
