In the 1861 Census Charles Stanfield, a single man, was a lodger at the boarding house of Susannah Russell at Chamber Square Wapping. He said he was a former soldier from the East India Company and had been born in Birmingham.
During the voyage of the Lincelles Pensioner C. Stansfield (sic) was reported by Sergt. Major Moody for insolence, 3rd November 1861 -2 days extra duty.
At the inquest into her death it was found that Alice Pearce died from nervous apoplexy. From the testimony given it appears she was lying in Fitzgerald street at 3am on the morning of 28th December when the prison night cart accidentally ran over her. She lived for about 90 minutes but died prior to being conveyed to the hospital.
