Further Information | British Army Worldwide Index 1851 Hugh Small 2275 Private 61st Foot location Peshawar 1861 Hugh Small 2275 Private 61st Foot location Devonport Served with the Army of Punjaub in the campaigns of 1848-1849 and was present at the Chenah and in the battle of Sadoolapore Chillianwalla and Goojerat and with Major Gen Sir NR Gilbert’s field force in pursuit of the enemy to the Kyber Pass in March 1849 (Medal and 2 clasps) served at the sieges and assault and capture of Delhi 1857 (medal and clasp) Discharge due to chronic rheumatism, pain around old wound (wounded left elbow by musket ball at Chillianwalla) tape worm, congestion of liver and spleen. Hugh Small was gazetted to have received prize money for Delhi. Hugh Small was admitted five times to Royal Adelaide Hospital on 30th May 1870, 31 May 1877, 19th June 1876 25 February 1879, and 12th May 1880. Each time he said he was a married man, a Catholic, born Cavan Ireland, a butcher or a labourer, he had been 7 years (1870) and 14 years in the Colony and had arrived on the Emily Smith. He lived at Clare, Hoyleton, Heyeton, and Gouger Streets.
