Will or ProbateOn 2nd September 1898 John Seery made a will leaving all his estate to his wife Ellen Seery for her lifetime. After her death it was to be divided equally between some of the children ie Mary, Rose, William Richard, Joseph, Margaret, Ellen and James Patrick.
The value of the estate was £509/14/0 – the Value of Perth town lot V 150 was £450.

Discharge due to Asthemia and worn out.
November 1880 John Seery is on the Nominal list for the Enrolled Guard. He is living in Barracks with his wife and 4 sons and 3 daughters but he is listed in the Mt Eliza Barracks as having 5 sons and 2 daughters living with him, 2 of the sons are in employment.
11th November 1880 Appointed to the Enrolled Guard.
He bought furniture at the Barracks disposal sale.
He was discharged when the Guard was disbanded 31st March 1887 as a Lance Corporal and was recorded as having 3 medals, 1 for the Indian Mutiny, 1 for New Zealand and 1 for the Cape (of Good Hope) He was in possession of a cottage and 2 roods 6 perches of land in Perth.
13th June 1887 John Seery applied for employment as a Railway watchman, porter or man of all works. In his application it said he was age 58, married, and could read and write. It was further noted that he was a sober, steady and deserving of employment. Although there was no vacancy at the time his application was registered and should a vacancy occur he would be remembered. SROWA Cons 527 1887/2233)
John, Ellen and daughter Margaret were buried in the East Perth Cemetery and the grave has a surround and a head stone inscribed with the words “IN LOVING MEMORY OF MY DEAR HUSBAND JOHN SEERY WHO DIED ON THE 29th SEPT. 1898 AGED 69 YEARS ALSO MARGARET DAUGHTER OF THE ABOVE AND WIFE OF WILLIAM DILLON, (KALGOORLIE) WHO DIED JULY 5th 1906 AGED 24 YEARS R.I.P. ALSO ELLEN SEERY BELOVED WIFE OF THE ABOVE DIED MAY 28th 1909 AGED 63 YEARS

At least two of John Seery’s son joined the AIF during World War 1, John Joseph enlisted on 2nd April 1817 but as he was 48 years and 5 month of age he was discharged as being over the age limit. He gave his place of birth as Calcutta India, his next of kin was his wife Alice Marie and he was employed as a electric linesman. Brother Joseph John enlisted on 23rd November 1915 age 35 years and 6 months giving his next of kin as his brother John Joseph. His occupation was given as a station hand and may have been the reason he was drafted into the Light Horse and later into the Camel Corps.
The other brothers may have enlisted but their records have not been digitised, their sons also enlisted.
