Discharge due to wasting bodily and activity
After the arrival of the Scindian at Fremantle Captain Henderson wrote a report listing the rank name, trade or calling, rate of pension, date of enlistment for 5 months service, marital status, and number of children for each pensioner. Sometimes the trade of calling differed from that recorded at the time of attestation:
Private Richard Roffey, plumber and glazier, 1/-, 17th January, single
30th January 1851 Captain Henderson proposed that a gratuity of £5 be paid to the pensioners who instructed the children on the Scindian namely Corporal Gordon and Private Roffey – the Governor divided the £5 between the two men.

Richard Roffey was assigned South Perth lot P12 of 5 acres on 16th August 1850, however due to the problems of isolation and only being accessible by river all the lots were abandoned despite Captain Bruce’s efforts to establish a wood cutting enterprise which also failed.
