Further Information | British Army Worldwide index 1841 Richard Roffey 664 Corporal 59th ft location Templemore Cork and Jersey Discharge due to wasting bodily and activity After the arrival of the Scindian at Fremantle Captain Henderson wrote a report listing the rank name, trade or calling, rate of pension, date of enlistment for 5 months service, marital status, and number of children for each pensioner. Sometimes the trade of calling differed from that recorded at the time of attestation: Private Richard Roffey, plumber and glazier, 1/-, 17th January, single 30th January 1851 Captain Henderson proposed that a gratuity of £5 be paid to the pensioners who instructed the children on the Scindian namely Corporal Gordon and Private Roffey – the Governor divided the £5 between the two men. AJCP Reel 775 Entry book of correspondence 1848-1851 SROWA Vol 221/133 Richard Roffey was assigned South Perth lot P12 of 5 acres on 16th August 1850, however due to the problems of isolation and only being accessible by river all the lots were abandoned despite Captain Bruce’s efforts to establish a wood cutting enterprise which also failed. |
