Further Information | William Riseam saw active service while serving in the Wellesley at China, may have been eligible for medal. Discharge: Length of service and at his own request AJCP reel 466/87 part 2 Folio 233 Proceedings of a Court of Inquiry into complaints by the wives of the Pensioner Guard on the Stag into the conduct of the Super Intendent Surgeon Caldwell. Enrolled Pensioner Private William Riseam said he had no personal quarrel with Mrs Brown before she accused him of co-habitating with Mrs Denman. She was a most quarrelsome woman and he did not see her gagged. This suggests that his wife did not accompany him on the voyage to Western Australia, she has not been found on any census after 1851 although on his admission to Chelsea Hospital he said he was a married man. 1851 Census RG 107/1548/25/43 1 Short Street, St. George in the East, Tower Hamlets, Middlesex, London, England William Riseam (Riseane) Head, Married, 43, Labourer, Born Shoreditch, Middlesex Ann Riseam (Riseane) wife, 49, born Wiltshire Devizes 1861 Census RG 09/403/125/8 Greenwich, London, Kent, England William Riseam, In Pensioner, Married, age 54, Born London Middlesex |
