Further Information | 1841 British Army World Wide Index Mark Ring 40th Foot # 659 Location Quettah, Bombay, IndiaIn 1850 thirty married Chelsea Pensioners went to the Falkland Island with thirty kit houses to form a permanent garrison and Police force, however in 1857 disillusioned with the quality of the land grants and the inclement weather conditions, Mark and Mary Ring together with another 6 of the remaining pensioners returned to the UK at the Government’s expense.See Home – Archives (nationalarchives.gov.fk) For further information on the pensioners at the Falkland IslandsCons 1496/ 1901/ 1840/ 07: Hand Written letter to the Premier from Mary Ring regarding the termination of her employment as a cleaner of Government officers.They answered that her employment was of a temporary manner and she had given them good reasons to dismiss her. In a memo from the Public Works it said she had been ‘deficit in sobriety and had a contentious disposition to quarrel with the Superintendent of female cleaners’ despite cautions of which she took little heed. Given the letter is from the Premier it seems this is most likely to Mark Ring Jr’s wife Mary nee Claffey, |
