In 1879 step daughter Maria ASH nee JORDAN was baptised into the Catholic faith it was the same year that a Maria Ash married a William O’CONNOR which rather indicates it is the same woman.

Although it is recorded that he applied for a transfer to Tasmania in 1881 he actually went to Victoria and was paid there until the January quarter of 1884. He was struck off the pension list for not collecting his pension
