Conduct extemporary. In the 1861 Census the family is living at Stoke Demerel, Devonport, Devon. John Power, Head, Married, 40. Soldier, Born Ireland Catherine Power, Wife, Married, 36. Born Ireland Maria Jordan, Step-daughter, 14 Scholar, born Africa Eliza Power, daughter, 4, born Gibraltar.On the 31st August 1876. Pvt. John Power, Staff of the Army, 2/6 per day, has built his brick and mortar 2-roomed cottage on his free grant No. 143 at Perth and requests £15. In 1879 step daughter Maria ASH nee JORDAN was baptised into the Catholic faith it was the same year that a Maria Ash married a William O’CONNOR which rather indicates it is the same woman. Although it is recorded that he applied for a transfer to Tasmania in 1881 he actually went to Victoria and was paid there until the January quarter of 1884. He was struck off the pension list for not collecting his pension |
