1861 Discharge notes from 40th Regiment: Present disability is the direct result of military service and has not been aggravated by vice or intemperance. Two months after his arrival in New Zealand he was wounded in action with the rebel natives at the Waitara on the 27th June 1860. The ball entered outer surface of left arm a short distance below the shoulder joint and appeared to take its direction in front of the arm among the muscles of the neck, its further course could not be traced. This patient suffered severely from the wound and was for some time in a very precarious state he however made a slow and gradual recovery and is now invalided from inability to use the arm.

1872 dismissed as Assistant Warder for sleeping three times whilst on duty

1873 Convicted of desertion from Enrolled Pensioner Force – Imprisoned for 84 days and pension suspended for this period.
