Wife would not accompany him to Western Australia (WO23/42 1845-1854)
She may have relented at the last minute as she is represented in the Surgeon’s sick list:
19th October 1850 Mrs Mitchell age 38 received medical treatment aboard the Hashemy ‘Febris’
Mathew Mitchell left Western Australia after being paid until 30th September 1852 with the intention of going to New Zealand however he seems to have decided to stay in Victoria as his pension was paid there from the last quarter of 1852 to his death.
