| Further Information | British Army Worldwide Index 1841 Mathew Mitchell 93 Private 65th Foot location Isle aux Noix Canada Discharge due to attacks of fever while in the West Indies 1831-2 Catarrh and ophthalmia when in America have weakened his health Wife would not accompany him to Western Australia (WO23/42 1845-1854) She may have relented at the last minute as she is represented in the Surgeon’s sick list: 19th October 1850 Mrs Mitchell age 38 received medical treatment aboard the Hashemy ‘Febris’ Mathew Mitchell left Western Australia after being paid until 30th September 1852 with the intention of going to New Zealand however he seems to have decided to stay in Victoria as his pension was paid there from the last quarter of 1852 to his death. |
