Samuel Millward is living at 9 Hemlock Court London with his wife Ann (40) and his son Samuel age 5 born Bristol Gloucestershire and daughter Florence age 2 born Middlesex. He is described as a Half Pay Army pensioner
During the voyage of the Clara was cautioned for cursing and using disgusting language he wrote “I have sent for Private Millward and read this notation from the Government Journal and in the event of such conduct being continued, I will use means to every extent to suppress the same.”
T.Millward was one of the six guards reported for gross negligence of duty in taking his ammunition from a pouch and concealing it in the barracks, Grog stopped for 3 days and the matter to be referred to the Commandant at Fremantle.Samuel Millward was a foundation member of the Temperance Society, took an active interest in Church affairs (Anglican) and he and his wife were Master and Matron of the Swan Orphanage until their resignation in 1878 prior to going to Champion Bay where he was employed as a school master at the back flats Greenough
