He had an open Bulbus in the groin with extensive sinuses not preceded by syphilis or aggravated by intemperance In the 1861 Census James is an unmarried soldier at the Hut Barracks, Pembroke Dock, Wales age 33 born Seven Oaks Kent. When James Meekhums Married Celia Martha Whitewood she was a widow with seven children, George b 1844, Charles b 1848, Eliza b 1848, Celia b 1849, William b 1851, Harriet Sarah b 1853 and Thomas b 1855. Of these children only George, Harriet Sarah and Thomas came to Western Australia on the Racehorse.
