Further Information | Discharge due to ‘…bad and irregular reunion of fracture (left forearm) the result of a kick from a horse while employed as a groom to Colonel Williams’… 28th May 1850 the War office queried the Staff officer Dublin as to whether Christopher Markey was a fit person to be part of the guard. However there was insufficient time to arrange a substitute but the SO Dublin was told he was not to approve anyone who had been discharged with an irregular character. July 1860 Imprisoned for 6 years for stealing a horse was discharged from sentence after 2 years When the Hashemy was chartered as a convict transport in 1850 its destination was Van Diemen’s Land but due to the strong anti-transportation movement in the Eastern states it was decided to send it to Western Australia where transportation was still acceptable. As a result the WO 23s still have the pensioners located in VDL in 1851 instead of Western Australia. |
