National Archives of Australia Record search of World War 1 records:
13 September 1915  Joseph John LILLIS enlisted in the 1st remount Unit No 2 Squadron at the age of 47 years and 1 month.  Next of Kin was Mary LILLIS  (mother).
Born in Perth Western Australia he said he was a widower and gave his trade as a carpenter.
His former experience was 2 years with the Volunteers Perth and 6 months as a trooper in the Kimberly.
He was discharged 9th December 1915 as not likely to become an efficient soldier

1924  From the death notice of Stephen Joseph LILLIS it appears that his brother William was in Canada and he returned to Queensland Australia
