On the voyage of the York to Western Australia George Lee was the Sergeant major in charge of the guard. He appears to have left his wife and family in the UK and returned to the UK via Sydney on the Merchantman departing Fremantle on 7th March 1863 and arriving Sydney on the 28th March 1863.
1861 Scottish Census George Lee Jnr lives Edinburgh with grandmother Esther McGill and aunts Margaret Dowling (30) and Annette McGill (20) both born Dublin. He served in the 77th 1856-1860 Service Number 3, joined in 1856 at Dublin, discharged 1860 at Edinburgh, all whilst under-age “suffers from epileptic fits.”
