The deceased arrived in the colony in the Belgravia during July of 1866. He was is member of the 27th Regiment of Foot, having joined the army in 1842, and served 21 years. He saw service in the Crimean and Indian Mutiny campaigns, receiving the medal for Alma, Inkerman, and Sebastapol. He was well known, and much sympathy is felt for his widow and three sons.
