Further Information | 1841 Census William Harman is living at Battery Hill East Stonehouse Devon with his first wife Ellen and family. William Hardman age 35 Army, Ellen age 30 and Margaret age 10 were all not born in County. Thomas age 7, William age 6, Ellen age 4, Joseph age 2 and Julia age 1 were all born in the County. By the time of the 1851 Census William now retired from the army and he and his family are living at 6 Octagonal Street St. Andrews, Plymouth Devon England William is aged 48 a pensioner from the Royal Artillery born Bolton, his 2nd wife Elizabeth age 35 is a dressmaker born Calstock Cornwall. His daughter Margaret, age 20, is also a dressmaker born East Woolwich, son Thomas age 19 was born Davenport Devon, Julia age 11 was born Davenport, Mary age 6 born Stonehouse and Richard age 1 was born Plymouth. It appears son William (born Stoke Damerel Devon) followed in his father’s footsteps in that he enlisted in the Royal Artillery 11th Battalion in 1848 aged 14 years but he was discharged 1851 due to being unfit. He is noted on the passenger list for the Minden age 17.
