Further InformationOn her marriage to John Hall Charlotte Wilson was a widow having previously married Charles Wilson (11th Dragoons) on 29 December 1829 at Cawnpore, Bengal India
1851 Census John and Charlotte are living with his father and two of his brothers at Elis Street Barnsley, Yorkshire England
On 10 November 1851 John Hall requested permission to proceed to Calcutta as he said he had married a native of that country who had not enjoyed good health in England. He stated he had served in the Army for 21 years and 6 months, 20 of those years in India and had been present with his regiment at the capture of Ghunzee, Gwalior and the Sutlej campaign.
Captain Bruce advised the Governor that the fifteen pounds for his wife’s passage would have to be repaid and also the problems with transferring payment of a pension. (SROWA CSR Cons 36 Vol 221/162)
The NAA has his transfer document from Sheffield to Melbourne dated June 1870 and also his pension payment from 1870 to 1885 and a notation of the date of death place of death is obscure.
