David Gray was treated at the Lucindale District Hospital and after being cured was too old and frail to work, consequently he was admitted to the Narracoorte Asylum on the proviso he forfeited his War office pension. A Mr E. Hall, chairman of the Lucindale District Hospital wrote to the destitute board stating the circumstances. Several board members considered it a disgrace to deprive Gray ‘of a pension he had earned as an old soldier’ – the matter was referred to General Downes. (Outcome unknown.) |
