On 24 September 1871 John Gorman made his will leaving his house and land at Stirling Street Perth and all his worldly possessions to his wife Julia Gorman. Julia Gorman was named as sole executrix.
Further InformationPrior to enlisting in the British army John had been studying for the priesthood having accompanied Dr Golding to Port Jackson in 1835 finding he was not suited to the priesthood he returned to London and enlisted in the British army. (See profile FamilyWest Library EPG files)
John was discharge due to an injury to his index finger of his left hand caused by an injury at the battle of Sobraon 10 February 1846. He had been present at the action at Punniar, and the army of Sutlej 1845-6 and present at the action at Moodkee, Ferozoshar, Aliwal, and Sobraon.
In the 1851 Census John Gorman is living with his wife Catherine and daughter Mary at Palace St. Westminster, London
John Gorman wrote a journal of the voyage of the Minden wherein he mentions the birth of his daughters, deaths at sea and any major events of the voyage as well as a muster held in Perth shortly after the ships arrival.
John Gorman was given the local rank of Sergeant major
After John’s death Julia married detective Thomas Rowe in 1875 at Fremantle WA
