Will or Probate | SROWA Cons 3458/3/1883 – Roderick Donahue made a will dated 28th March 1882 but failed to name an executor. Widow Mary Donahue of Fremantle applied for Letters of Administration 14th April 1883. Roderick bequeathed ‘My right and title to that piece of Sand assigned to me for Military Service in this Colony as an Enrolled Pensioner viz Perth Town lot No E 82 also the whole of my estate and effects and everything that I can by law dispose of.’ |
Further Information | Discharge: Unfit for further service. Was wounded in the right arm by piece of shell on the 19 August 1855 whilst in the trenches in the Crimea: he cannot use his arm properly in consequence of the nerves having been injured and at times finds it quite numbed and powerless. He is not able to handle his flintlock or do his duty as a soldier and is therefore recommended to be invalided. Conduct in hospital Good. Note from Kilmainham (hospital) Wound very slight will not interfere with his earning a livelihood. 20 November 1857. 16th July 1866 Roderick Donohue nominated his 22nd year old sister-in-law Jane Whealan (sic) from Kilworth, Cork as an assisted immigrant 1880 Roderick Donohue was a sergeant at the Magazine at Fremantle. 1881 he bought a quantity of furniture from the Barracks surplus to the value of £1.5.5 and £6.4.0. 10th January 1882 Sergeant Donohue employed as warder at the Magazine Fremantle is again admitted to hospital – recommendation he be discharged. 19th January 1882 stoppage of 10d per day for pensioners of the Enrolled Guard for hospital treatment. 13th January 1883 widow Mrs Donohue applied for a transfer for the Perth Barracks to Fremantle No 2 Barracks. |
