Discharge: At own request – suffering from Asthma.
1861 Census Patrick Donnelly was a single man age 24, born Dublin, Dublin, a drummer with the 46th regiment at the Garrison of Hull stationed in the citadel Kingston upon Hull Yorkshire.
Mary Heffernan, a single woman arrived at Fremantle from London on 14th January 1868 on the Tartar. Her age was recorded as 19 and occupation domestic servant. (Which does not indicate her maiden name was Clark)
Patrick Thomas and Christopher Augustus Donnelly both have their mother’s maiden name recorded as CLARK on the death certificates, there is no registration of birth for either of these names and no baptism entry in Familysearch, and whether these two are children of Patrick Donnelly and Mary Heffernan is debatable. William Thomas born 1st January 1879 died 22nd July 1957 is also doubtful as nowhere is his mother’s name recorded and a later child is named William Joseph. Christopher Donnelly acknowledges Patrick Thomas as his brother in his death notice which rather looks as if Mary Heffernan and Mary Clark may be the same person.
John Henry Donnelly enlisted at Blackboy Hill for service in WW1 on 1st March 1915. He returned to WA after being wounded, discharged 16th November 1916. Strangely he said he was born at Carlton, Victoria but correspondence from his wife and mother prove it was the son of Patrick and Mary Donnelly. His death registration records his mother a Mary Heffernon (sic)William Joseph Donnelly also joined up on 17th April 1917 but after a period of a few weeks he was found to be medically unfit for service as he had a previous injury causing chronic thickening of the structures around the right knee joints – with a slight synovial effusion and he was discharged 6th November 1917.
Christopher Joseph Donnelly also applied to enlist on 29th February 1916 but was rejected as he varicose veins and a varicose ulcer – his constitution was impaired.
