Further Information | British Army, Worldwide Index 1841 was at sea and camp near Poona India 1851 Dogshai, India Served in the campaign in the southern Mahratta county in 1844-5. Present at the taking and destruction of the villages in the Borne Valley Peshawar 1853. Discharge: At own request after serving 21 years WO23/57 shows 1863 COURTNEY Michael (transcription error) “off N/A”. WO22/252 New South Wales states 1st January 1864 to New Zealand. Paid Auckland NZ January-September 1864 Nicholas Courtney enlisted to fight in the New Zealand Maori wars at Sydney in 1863. (Second Waikato regiment.) He died of tuberculosis on 4 September 1864 and was awarded the New Zealand War medal. |
