1861 Census Thomas Byrne age 43, a Chelsea pensioner born Arklow Ireland is living at 31 Singleton Road Preston Lancashire England with his wife Catherine also 43, a hand loom cotton weaver born Wicklow Ireland and their son John who is aged 4 years and was born at Wigan Lancashire
The Surgeon Superintendent of the Merchantman rated Thomas Byrne’s conduct as very good despite having had his liquor stopped for 2 days for being late for watch, Mrs Byrne’s conduct was also rated very good.Cons 3458 letters of Administration 1889/182
Declaration by John Thomas Byrne of Greenough stating that Thomas Byrne died intestate leaving Catherine Byrne his lawful widow and relict who has duly renounced the letters of Administration of his person estate and effects and that I am the eldest son and heir at law and only natural son and lawful surviving child of the said deceased: that I will faithfully administer the personal estate and effects of the said deceased by paying first his debts and distributing the residue of his said estate and effects according to law: etc
The said deceased died at Greenough on the 7th day of May 1885 and the whole of the personal estate and effects of the said deceased does not amount to the sum of fifty pounds to the best of my knowledge information and belief.
