Verdict of suicide 1887 made by Perth Police Court inquest into Richard BATLEY’s death

6th October 1887 Letter to the Colonial Secretary: I regret to report for His Excellency’s Information an attempt to commit suicide on the 1st instant by Pensioner Batley the messenger and caretaker in the Imperial pay department, he with a revolver shot himself through the head, the bullet has been extracted but there is little hope of his recovery

Further Information: 24th October 1887 Margaret Batley wrote to the Colonial Secretary requesting a room at the Barracks as her husband had left her in very needy circumstances. She was refused as the Barracks were required by the police.
