Further Information | Discharge was due to a rupture. Hashemy’s Surgeons report : Guard Baskerville, Corporal, late of the EIC service and at present forming one of the Guard over convicts was supplied with a single truss for the right groin, the other one in use being rendered quite unserviceable by which the gut could not be kept from descending Louisa Baskerville age 3 was treated for phlegmon during the voyage of the Hashemy as was her brother William age 5 (more likely Albert) In the obituary for Harriett and the death certificates for Albert and Esther Louise their mother is named Harriet Reynolds but on her marriage to John she (Harriett Stringer) was a spinster. Her mother Anne Stringer married Colonel Reynolds after the death of her husband William Stringer, making William Reynolds her step-father. When the Hashemy was chartered as a convict transport in 1850 its destination was Van Diemen’s Land but due to the strong anti-transportation movement in the Eastern states it was decided to send it to Western Australia where transportation was still acceptable. As a result the WO 23s still have the pensioners located in VDL in 1851 instead of Western Australia. |
