Further Information | British Army Worldwide Index 1861 Thomas Evans Single 2319 Private 1st Btn 60th Ft location Dover 1871 Census RG 10 2950/74/14 10 Bilston Street Crown Yard Thomas age 44 is working as a labourer at a Colliery he said he was born Hailston Hereford, His wife Ann age 24 was born Ledbury Hereford and son Francis age 2 was born Sedgley Staffordshire. November 1880 name is on the Nominal roll for the Enrolled guard, at the time he was living in Barracks with his 4 children- 3 boys and 1 girl. Note to say his wife was dead.
SROWA Cons 144 – as follows “14 December 1882 Enrolled Guard Private Evans, regarding the theft of firewood at the Barracks belonging to Colonel D’Angelo. His attitude resulted in MS Smith suspending him from duty. Statement from Alfred Lockyer witness to the above altercation and theft of the wood. Statement of Thomas Evans regarding the above (Thomas Evans was also the sons name). 15 December 1882 HE the Governor approves the dismissal of Private Evans from the Enrolled Guard.” |
