Discharge: At his own request having served 21 years. Edward Delaney served in the Enrolled Guard from 7th October 1886 to 31st March 1887. Wife Mary Delaney wife of Edward made an application to purchase Fremantle lot 839 on the 19th June 1869 for 6 pounds 7th January 1881 Mr John Forrest returning from Perth in his trap on the Fremantle Road near North Fremantle when he ran over Edward Delaney who was lying drunk in the roadway causing him to have 3 ribs broken and ‘his system was severely shaken up.” After reporting to the police Mr Forrest drove Delaney to his (Delaney’s) home and summonsed Dr Barnett to attend him. At the time t here were grave concerns for his recovery, however he rallied. On the 7th March his wife applied to the Colonial Secretary for his pension as he was in hospital after the accident. She was told it would depend on the how much the Colony claimed. (Hospital Charges) On the 17th May 1881 Delaney requested to have his hospital charge remitted. Subsequently on 30th May 1881 Dr. Barnett took Edward to court for half the cost of providing Edward with medical assistance for 40 days at the request of Mr Forrest who had paid half the account. In 1887 Mary Delaney wrote to the Colonial Secretary asking for a remittance of sentence for her son Joseph who had been imprisoned on a charge of drunkenness and resisting police as she said she had a husband who was a worn out British soldier and they need their son at home to help maintain the house. As Joseph was considered a person of ill repute the request was refused. Present at the Diamond Jubilee banquet held at St. George’s Hall, Perth on 25 June 1897
