Will or Probate	24th September 1881 prepared a will (SROWA Cons. 3403 Item 1885-761): Probate issued 24th August 1885 This is a very detailed will drawn up on 24th September 1881 naming Bernard Smith and Ellen Flanagan as the executors. He stipulated his youngest son James Michael Flanagan was to be the chief benefactor subject to 6 conditions: 1st He is allow Ellen Flanagan (mother) to live in the house built on V48 as long as she lives or until she remarries 2nd he is to give to his mother a reasonable weekly or monthly allowance for her support and maintenance 3rd If his (Richard’s) sister-in-law Mary Ann Flanagan is unable to work he is to allow her to reside with his mother (Ellen) at the above residence 4th Should either or both Richard Charles and William Joseph Flanagan wish to build a house at the northern end of V48 they can do so within 10 years of his death 5th He requests two masses for the repose of his soul a soon as possible after his death and one on each anniversary of his death 6th If James Michael and Ellen decide to sell the property the proceeds are to be divided as follows: 1/14 to his son Luke Flanagan 1/14 to son John 1/14 to son Richard Charles 2/14 to sister-in –law Mary Ann Flanagan 1/28 masses for his and Ellen’s soul 15/28 Equally divided between James Michael and his mother Ellen

He married Ann Boland who also had journeyed from WA. He became a school teacher at Tatura, Victoria before becoming the Secretary of the Tatura Agricultural Show with outstanding success.
