Discharge due to chronic rheumatism the effect of long service and exposure in a tropical climate. 1851 Census 1 Braunstone Gate St. Mary’s Leicester. John Preston, a single man aged 37, a Chelsea pensioner, born Stoney Stanton Leicestershire is living in the home of George and Mary Aldham to whom he is a relative. In the 1871 Census a John Preston age 54, a Chelsea pensioner, born Stoney Stanton, Leicestershire, is living at Limehouse, Stepney, London with his wife Caroline age 47 born Mile End Middlesex London. If this John Preston of the 17th Foot Caroline must have died before he applied for entry into the Chelsea Hospital in 1878 as it stated he had no wife or family. Admitted to In-Pension Chelsea Hospital 1st October 1878-30 September 1881. Admitted to Out Pension 1 October 1881 as he wished to seek employment. 20th August 1879 Refund of passage money from Australia stopped from pension. |
