1851 Census HO 107/1488/656/23 Michael Manning is a lodger in the home of Johanna Walsh at 14 Orchard Place Marylebone, London. Place of birth St. George’s.
In June 1852 Michael Manning was on Duty at Toodyay he was appointed to the Mounted Police, however, the incumbent decided not to resign and Manning was dismissed. Captain Bruce wrote to the Governor requesting he be re-instated to the Duty Force as he was dismissed through no fault of his own.
In about 1853 he went to Champion Bay with the Detachment and returned to Perth on 4th October 1856 and had a balance of £60 owing to him. He failed to attend the Annual Exercise on the 6th and Captain Bruce wrote to the Governor suggesting as he was a single man he be made an example of.
He was paid Melbourne January 1868-June 1868 when he was struck off.
A Michael Manning was drowned in the river at Oxley on 1st December 1867, he had been a labourer at the tobacco plantation. An inquest was held into the accidental drowning identified the body of being that of Michael Manning but did not establish who he actually was. Seeing Pensioner Manning was paid until June 1868 when he was struck off it possibly was not our Michael Manning.
