Further Information | British Army Worldwide Index: 1841 James Gordon Gunner and driver, 2Bn Royal Artillery 6th Company location Woolwich. Discharge due to chronic rheumatism In the 1851 Census James a pensioner age 47 and Mary Ann (35) Gordon are living at The House of Refuge and Night Refuge (Queensberry House) Canongate Midlothian Scotland The exact date of James’s marriage was found in the papers attached to his WO97, unfortunately it does not give his wife’s name or the place of marriage but it is very possible it was at Corfu. The 1851 Census said Edinburgh but that is unlikely as it is not registered. On the 22nd March 1869 James Gordon was lost in the bush while out collecting Xanthorrhoeas. His wife reported him missing when he did not return by nightfall. After a search covering about 50 miles he was located on the 25th lying in an exhausted state beside the Clarence Road having been without sustenance for three days. He was transported back to Fremantle. Possibly birth 1803 Edinburgh Parish, Edinburgh Midlothian, Scotland mother Mary Dunn father William Gordon |
