Ann Denby Married JOYCE John, 31st regiment (1806-1839) 25 February 1833 at Kurnaul India –they had 2 children John born 1838 and Mary born 1836 Her surname was Bathoone when she married Gaunt at Dinapore in 1846. 1851 Census HO 107/1748/698/10 Little Stuckely, Huntingdonshire William is living with his wife Anne and 2 children Jane (4) and Frederick (3) and his step daughter Mary Joyce (15) On the list of pensioners of the guard William Gaunt is listed with wife Ann 34 and children Mary 16, John 13, Frederick 4 and Jane aged 2. Mary and John are children of Ann’s first marriage to John Joyce. John Joyce came to Western Australia on the Minden but he disappeared from the records from then. Mrs Gaunt was the midwife at the birth of John Gorman’s twins on board the Minden. If it had not been for her expertise in breach births Mrs Gorman and probably the second child would have died. In 1855 William Gaunt is living at the North Fremantle Pensioners’ village with his wife and 4 children. 1st March 1864 Mrs Gaunt applied to be employed as the midwife for the Poor house.
