Further Information | Previous to enlisting in the 23rd Fusiliers John Ward had been a volunteer for the 3rd Lancashire Militia from 5 November 1852 until 6 November 1854 when he was released from service for the purpose of enlisting in the 23rd Fusiliers Unfit for service due to gunshot wound of right shoulder and right side of the face The Surgeon Superintendent of the Merchantman rated John Ward’s conduct as Very Good, he was a single man. He received medical treatment during the voyage. In 1865 John Ward was one of the pensioners who was appointed to the expedition to Camden Harbour. His conduct during the period is noted as indifferent. In the 1871 Census John aged 50 a pensioner is a single man boarding in the home of Nancy Pickup at 34 Albert Street Preston Lancashire |
