Further Information	Discharge due to a gunshot wound to the back (3rd September) resulting in a weakness and slight numbness of the right leg, also a gunshot wound to the right calf In the 1861 Census of England Philip De St Croix (sic) age 26, an Army pensioner is living with his wife Mary age 22 at 5 Winchester Street St Helier Jersey Channel Islands. Philip was born at St. Savours Jersey and Mary in England. The Surgeon Superintendent of the Merchantman rated the conduct of both Philip and his wife as Very Good. Mrs Simcox (sic) received medical treatment during the voyage Philip and Mary travelled to New South Wales on the Rangatira in 1864 but his pension does not appear to have been paid there. (perhaps they left the ship at Melbourne or stayed in SA) On 8th October 1879 Philip pleaded guilty to a charge of embezzlement and was gaoled for 6 months, he followed this with several convictions for theft in the 1880s resulting in further periods of imprisonment. Philip’s death was due to a burning accident but there are no details of this.
