Discharge due to reduction in the army and unfit for further service due to an enlargement of the scrotum the result of a bruise when on duty in Turkey and a gunshot wound to the left leg suffered at the battle of Alma
William Rawson arrived in Western Australia as a single man; he received medical treatment during the voyage of the Merchantman. The Surgeon Superintendent rated his conduct as Very Good.
William Rawson was admitted 3 times to the (Royal) Adelaide hospital between 1874 and 1881 aged between 48 and 55. He said he was a married man, Roman Catholic, living at Wright street in Adelaide and had been born in Derbyshire. He had arrived on the Emily Smith. His wife Catherine was admitted to the hospital on 6th January 1877 age 35, she erroneously said she had been born in Manchester, the additional information was the same as for William
Catherine Pedary was the sister of LEARY/O’LEARY Daniel 48th and 57th Regiment, she arrived on the “York” 1862 with Daniel and her adopted daughter

In the 1861 English Census Catherine Predary (27) widow and her adopted daughter Elenr (sic) Johnstone are living with Catherine’s brother Daniel Leary at Court 27 Marcus Street Brightside Bierlow Sheffield Yorkshire. Both Catherine and Daniel said they were born Queenstown Ireland. Elanr (Eleanor) was 2 months of age born Sheffield Yorkshire
After the death of his wife there was a court case between William and his step daughter over property he considered he inherited from his wife’s estate. It is reported in The Register 17 May 1905 page 6, The Advertiser 15 August 1905 page 3, The Register 29 August 1905 page 8
