Further Information | British Army Worldwide Index 1841 Patrick Bagley 1286 Private 99th Foot location Dublin 1851 Patrick Bagley 1286 Private 99th foot location Van Diemen’s Land 1861 Patrick Bagley Private 99th foot location Centre Recruiting Depot Dublin Patrick Bagley’s daughter Catherine died during the voyage of the Merchantman. The Surgeon Superintendent considered private Patrick Bagley’s conduct on the Merchantman as Good although he was guilty of fighting with pensioner Carsons while in prison (2 days in cell and liquor stopped for 1 month) His wife was also Good except for one occasion when she was most violent and noisy from the effects of liquor. After the death of Patrick Bagley the Resident Magistrate Micah Downes wrote to the Colonial Secretary regarding the plight of his widow Bridget Bagley. The sum of £44 had been raised by public subscription to enable Mrs Bagley to build a cottage on the block of land on the outskirts of Geraldton (using the materials already on the block) as Patrick had died without any personal property. His 16 acre grant at Bootenal was leased to Pensioner Stone at an average rental of £10 per year, however without Government assistance she would be unable to maintain herself and her three children. Mrs Bagley was allowed 1/- per day for 3 months to be reviewed. It is not clear as to whether the 10 acres at Geraldton was bought by Bagley or if it was a grant in addition to his Bootenal grant that was only 16 acres not the usual 33 granted to most of the other pensioners. |
