Further Information | British Army, Worldwide Index 1851 Corporal 1338 location Wazirabad Pakistan Discharge: “The tibia and fibula of right leg were fractured by a kick from a horse when Sergt. Moody was on a general watering parade on duty. There is still discharge from 2 open orifices most probably kept up by the diseases bone. Sergt. Moodie has seen hard service in India and the Crimea which may have weakened the constitution and prevented the proper union of the bones. He was wounded at Chillianwallah. In the 1861 Census RG09/176/90 King Street, St. Anne Westminster London Joseph Moody was living with his parents Elizabeth and Thomas Moody and his sister Maria. During the voyage of the Lincelles Sergeant Thomas Moody was appointed to the position of Sergeant Major however due to intemperance he was demoted and Edward McSherry appointed in his place. He was paid in Western Australia to December 1862 Thomas Moody enlisted at Sydney NSW in the 2nd Waikato regiment on 21 August 1863 to fight in the New Zealand Maori wars. For his service he was awarded the NZ War medal and was granted a block of land. According to one newspaper article he spent twelve years in the Colonial forces. A marriage is recorded for Thomas Villers Moody and Susan Horran in New Zealand in 1886 but a wife is not mentioned in his obituary and he died in an Old men’s’ home in Gisborne |
