Further Information | 1841 British Army World Wide Index shows William with 50th at sea Calcutta India Discharge: Reduction in Army. Gunshot wound to the right hand received at Ferozeshah 21 December 1845 destroying the tendons of the middle and ring fingers which prevents his closing the hand and consequently making him unfit to perform the ordinary duties of a soldier. In the June 1853 New Zealand Census 1853 William Pelcher was living at Onehunga, Auckland at the pensioner settlements. His occupation was shoemaker and his qualification was ‘freehold estate’. Sarah Pilcher was admitted to the (Royal) Adelaide hospital on the 6th October 1869, she was a married woman a Roman Catholic residing Wakefield St., a housewife, born Dublin Ireland, and had been 6 years in the Colony, arriving on the Gem (from Perth). A possible marriage: Sarah Elizabeth Pitcher married James Potter on 12th June 1872 at the Wesleyan Parsonage Port Adelaide, father Sargent Pitcher. She died 13th February 1907 age 67 at Parkside the widow of James Potter |
