Further Information | British Army Worldwide Index 1841 Thomas Bandy 461 Corporal 98th Foot location Newcastle, Manchester and Naas Discharge due to chronic rheumatism and inguinal hernia Thomas Bandy age 10, William age 8, Elizabeth age 5 and Maria age 1 all received medical treatment during the voyage of the Hashemy. Elizabeth and Maria both suffered from measles and Thomas and William from phlegmon. 1851 Thomas Bandy was tried for stealing four pairs of shoes and sentenced to 7 years transportation to Van Diemen’s Land however he was pardoned by the Governor. 7th January 1854 he was again arrested for stealing tobacco the property of Messrs Gibson, Dyett and Co this time the charge was dismissed. There are sundry accounts Thomas Bandy appearing in the police courts. In 2002 the Bandy family held a re-union at Kings Park Perth WA which was attended by around 50 people from Geraldton, Darkan, Donnybrook, Gingin and Melbourne Victoria and included descendants of the Habekost family. Carl Habekost the husband of Elizabeth was a Master Mariner. Extensive research has been done by members of the Bandy family and is available online Purchased Perth Lot Y23 with 3 others Purchased Perth Lot Y25 Purchased Perth Lot Y24 with Sarah When the Hashemy was chartered as a convict transport in 1850 its destination was Van Diemen’s Land but due to the strong anti-transportation movement in the Eastern states it was decided to send it to Western Australia where transportation was still acceptable. As a result the WO 23s still have the pensioners located in VDL in 1851 instead of Western Australia. |
