| Further Information | Discharge: Gunshot wound to the neck and Face. “On 12th of March 1858 when on duty at Lucknow a bullet struck his neck under the left jaw and came out in upper part of the right cheek, was invalided from India in consequence. He is unable to masticate his food, the process of opening his mouth being extremely limited and there is no prospect of his ever becoming effective. Disability caused by a gun- shot wound on duty”. The shipping list of the Emily Smith 1866 recorded Hugh Higgins and his wife and 3 children departed for South Australia, At the time of Hugh’s death Catherine said she had five children between 18 and 11 years, we have only 4 living children at the time. |
