Thomas Bryan was the first bandmaster of the Metropolitan Rifle Volunteer Band in Perth and the Launceston Volunteer Rifle Band in Tasmania
His sons carried on the family tradition all being musically talented; daughter Caroline was a talented pianist.
In 1935 The West Australian (10th March 1935 page 22) commemorated the death of son Thomas’ son John Joseph Bryan in 1901
“A royal review of Australian troops by King George (then Duke of York) took place on May 10, 1901 at Flemington, following the opening of the first Commonwealth Parliament. Lieutenant Thomas Bryan V.D. West Australian bandmaster, died on the parade during the march past.”
