Further Information | British Army Worldwide Index 1841 George Beasley 621 Sergeant location Malta 1851 George Beasley 621 Color Sergeant location Newport Wales Discharge: For the purpose of enabling to serve on the permanent staff of the 1st or East Devon Militia per authority date Horse Guards 26 September 1853 In the 1851 Census George, a color sergeant, is living in the Longcross Barracks, Roath, Cardiff, Glamorganshire, Wales with his wife Caroline age 29 born Germany (British Subject) and daughter Jane age 1 who was born At Portsmouth Hampshire. George as the highest ranking non-commissioned officer of the Convict guards acted as the Sergeant Major during the voyage of the Stag. Proceedings of a Court of Inquiry into complaints by the wives of the Pensioner Guards on the Stag into the conduct of the Superintendent Surgeon CALDWELL. Major George BEASLEY, in command of the detachment of Pensioners, gave evidence that the Surgeon did not inform him he was going to examine the women. (His wife was exempted). George Beasley was a widower at the time of his death (1884) and the children still alive were Jane Robertson, Emily Butler, David Beasley and Frederick Beasley The information regarding deaths was found in the probate records. |
