1851 English Census shows MONAGHAN Bernard as being unmarried living 26 Waterloo Street Portsea Portsmouth Hampshire as a lodger in the home of another pensionerAn Eliza Monaghan left WA on the CW Bradley on 10th March 1857 for Adelaide, South Australia who may have been Bernard’s wife.
Karen McCormack a descendant of Bernard Monaghan has supplied a photograph “supposedly of Bernard Monaghan, Ellen (Monaghan) Collins (his daughter) with children Julia, Jack & Mary on knee – approx 1879, probably taken in South Melbourne.”
Karen writes “I was really fortunate to meet my grandmother’s cousin who was also descended from my man Bernard Monaghan. During a recent catch up he had a few treasures that I didn’t know about that he wanted to show me. I was very surprised when he had Bernard’s original army discharge documents as well as his medal, cap badge and dagger, all brought by Bernard from the UK to Western Australia and eventually to Victoria.”
Karen has kindly supplied photographs of these.
